Are components of one KARL STORZ system compatible with those of another?
YES. KARL STORZ products are generally designed to be compatible with each other, regardless of the specialty for which they were designed. For example, all light sources, light cables and cameras will fit all telescopes and fiberscopes made by KARL STORZ. This allows the practitioner to add capabilities to the system at minimal expense.

Can I adapt KARL STORZ products to those of another manufacturer?

In most cases, YES. KARL STORZ manufactures a variety of adapters to permit the use of products made by other major endoscope product manufacturers. Our endoscopes have a universal eyepiece for easy attachment of most video cameras, and every KARL STORZ telescope includes a light guide post with integral adapters designed for the attachment of light cables from each of the other major manufacturers.

What will it cost to purchase a complete system?

The cost of a "complete" endoscope system can vary, depending on the specialty, and the level of products selected. A veterinary practitioner can realistically expect to enter the field of endoscopy for as little as $5,000 - 15,000. However, a complete system, with a full array of instrumentation and the highest quality electronic devices may cost upwards of $50,000.

Does KARL STORZ sell used equipment?

Our primary goal is to provide veterinarians with the highest quality new endoscopy products and services. We, therefore do not focus on refurbishing and reselling, nor do we "push" outdated or obsolete products. However, we DO have access to discount items that may be discontinued or previously used for demonstration purposes. Please contact your sales representative for availability information.

Where should I start in small animal endoscopy?

The answer to this question becomes most apparent after attending an introductory seminar in your field of interest. The primary applications of flexible fiberoptic endoscopy are diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases (both upper and lower), and foreign body removal. More and more small animal practitioners, however, are beginning their practice of endoscopy with rigid telescopes: The 2.7 mm Multi-Purpose Rigid™ Endoscope can be used for a variety of procedures including rhinoscopy, cystoscopy, otoscopy, arthroscopy, and endoscopy of small exotics. For those who are interested in bringing video endoscopic technology into the exam room, check out the Vetcam XL Endoscope System, designed for otoscopic exams in the awake patient, and much, much more!
